Aspen is the county seat of Pitkin County, Colorado — a former silver-mining boomtown in the Roaring Fork Valley that is now one of the world's premier ski resorts and cultural centers. Sitting at roughly 7,900 feet in the Elk Mountains, Aspen is home to the four Aspen Snowmass ski areas, the Aspen Music Festival and School, and the Aspen Institute.
